Program Structure
The Web Design and Development Certificate is a three-course, nine-credit-hour program that will prepare you to build, manage, develop, and deploy web applications. The program also offers an optional fourth course, providing you with additional hands-on training as you complete a real-world project for a nonprofit organization.
You will begin the program by taking two courses in Fall I (August), and a third course in Fall II, completing the certificate in just five months.
Courses are completed online, with weekly synchronous meetings held during the evening.

In addition to serving as an exceptional stand-alone certificate, you can transfer your work in the program to a bachelor's degree program in SCPS. The certificate will also prepare you to complete the Graduate Certificate in Web Programming offered through Loyola's Department of Computer Science upon your completion of the bachelor's degree.
As a student in the program, you will design, develop, test, and deploy accessible multi-tier web applications that utilize a modern JavaScript-based programming stack for web development.
The program's optional fourth course is a Special Topics experience allowing you to apply what you've learned to create a website or web application for community and nonprofit organizations.
You will complete the program's course requirements entirely online, with weekly synchronous meetings held during evenings, to ensure it will adapt to the demands of your daily life and schedule.

In the Web Design and Development Certificate program you will develop the skills to:
- Apply graphic design principles that relate to web design and incorporate theories into real-world practice
- Use best practices to plan, design, and construct websites for modern web browsers and standards
- Develop, implement, and deploy a web application using HTML+CSS+JS (including JS libraries and frameworks such as jQuery and React)
- Employ client-side services to interact with web-based server-side APIs
