About the Gender Studies Certificate at Loyola
In our increasingly global world, migration issues have become front and center. While not always recognized as a factor in migration, gender influences reasons for migrating, such as who migrates and to where, the networks they use, opportunities and resources available during migration, and relations with an immigrant's country of origin.
The online Certificate in Gender Studies and Migration for Social Justice at Loyola University Chicago challenges the idea that sex and gender are fixed categories and removed from migratory experiences.
In this one-of-a-kind program, you will learn about the factors that affect all aspects of the migration process, including the roles, expectations, and power dynamics associated with gender and sexual identity and expression. You will discover the importance of challenging power structures associated with migration and learn how to advocate for immigrants, refugees, and displaced individuals.

The online Certificate in Gender Studies and Migration for Social Justice is a part-time, fully online program offered in collaboration with the School of Social Work. It can be completed in two semesters or in one summer session and one semester.
