The Computer Science Certificate is a nine-credit-hour program that includes three courses that can be completed within one semester over an eight-week timeframe.
You do not need a background in computer science or programming to enroll in the program. Courses are rigorous and intensive, preparing you with a thorough understanding of the principles of object-orientation, basic design patterns, and programming in mainstream object-oriented languages.
Courses are offered online, with weekly synchronous meetings held during the evening.

The Computer Science Certificate program is delivered fully online, with weekly synchronous meetings held during evenings, allowing you to collaborate with fellow students and faculty in a way most convenient for you.
Courses in the certificate program can be applied toward an undergraduate degree and will satisfy prerequisites for Loyola's MS in Information Technology and Software Engineering program for those looking to advance their education.
Classes in the certificate program are kept intentionally small as a way to ensure that you will receive the most engaging and personalized learning experience possible.
As a student in the certificate program, you will complete two required courses and then choose from a variety of electives covering areas like software engineering, information technology, web applications, and mobile software for the remaining course.

The Computer Science Certificate program will support you in developing the following skills:

Official transcripts are those that are sent directly by the college/university to Loyola University Chicago. Transcripts sent by the student to Loyola are considered unofficial documents, and while they may be utilized for initial review of your application, official transcripts are still required. Official documents should be sent by the institution to gradapp@luc.edu.
International Applicant Requirements
An official English language proficiency exam is required for international applicants whose native language is not English. If you have non-U.S. educational credentials, you are required to submit an official transcript evaluation. The transcript evaluation cannot be waived.
